Let me know what you think about this, we definitely had a lot of elaboration on this one so if you feel something is unnecessary and can be trimmed, or if something even needs to be elaborated on further-- let us know! And as always, keep it civil.

Metagaming

Metagaming is the act of using out-of-game information in your roleplay.

This includes info gained from:

  • Discord/Twitch Streams
  • A video/text conversation conducted out of character
  • Information from the #text-rp and #character-bios channels on the Discord
  • Other external communications such as Discord, Teamspeak, etc
  • Knowledge from other characters that you play as

On our server, it is expected that you learn about everything in character and never use anything outside of the game to benefit you, even if you feel like your story or roleplay would be better knowing the information you've heard out of character.

On the topic of using recordings for in character consequences:
Anything streamed or recorded cannot be used to punish the character in RP, for example if a cop wants to do something shady on stream only the people involved in the RP situation can report it from their own perspective.

If you are watching the stream or recording, the footage cannot be used against them in a roleplay scenario. Anyone can claim they are using bodycam footage, which in return can be used as evidence against someone in RP. However, streams and recordings can be used by staff to enforce server rules.

LoL, but it's a legit real thing. How exactly does it lead to powergaming? This it self make zero sense.

if you can find a pair of glasses ingame that actually have a camera visable if you look closely, then i would say thats fair. If not thats powergamey AF imo

If you dont see it getting abused then "LoL"

Same with people and these magic dashcams that capture a 360° imagine at all times. Or police bodycams that can see people over walls doing criminal activities.

people get into the habit of becuase I (the player) can see this person doing this that their character could. You dont realise your camera is floating 20ft above.

This is also a good point.  Probably next to impossible to enforce without everyone being stuck in first person & I think a lot can be excused by GTA having no lean or peek function, but still a good point.

How exactly does it lead to powergaming?

Because I seriously doubt someone that claims to be recording through their glasses 24/7 is going to, eg, mention that to police if they are arrested & searched. Hence the need for some kind of prop or filming emote, so this footage doesn't just magically exist when it's convenient.

How can it be abused? And there are dash-cams that utilize 360° tech now a days. Not only that, there are vahicles that have cameras pointed to catch every angle of the car to catch things happening to it. I.E. Tesla. These things ACTUALLY exist. Does this mean that people who have purchased this technology are Powergaming at life?

If the cops or the people taking someone and stripping their stuff before they get sent off, that's on their end. That to me is lacking. That's not powergaming. I don't need to tell people that I am recording 100% of the time or even mention that I am recording in certain scenarios. So it's powergaming if I don't mention that I am recording?

Or they just make it an item you can have in your inventory. Then cops can remove it if they feel the need too. I agree there should be some kind of understanding that characters can record for IC purposes

What I've learned from here is that whenever I'll kidnap someone next time, along with /me takes their phone and radio and /me takes their guns , i will also do /me takes his sunglasses and /me rips his buttons and throws them out the window

If the cops are processing you in the cells, or someone had kidnapped you and searched you thoroughly? Yes, they would find a recording device.  Further, those recordings would exist someplace where they could be found later.  If you're recording 24/7 are you going to turn over all those recordings to PD if your home gets raided?  At that point you can simply claim they were hidden in the hubcap of your 3rd car that they never disassembled, or in a squirrel's nest in a certain tree in your backyard, and that is why it's powergaming.  They only exist when you want them to.

Regularly recording only lasts X amount of hours. And if you take someone’s phone that would be the device sending any signals. A Ring doorbell doesn’t save the recordings in the device. It saves for a certain time and then records over again. This is where rules come into play. No one is wrong for thinking these ideas if there is no rules against it. Also it is not something that isn’t unbelievable other servers consider these things. Half the time if your character can’t see something it is out of sight. Regardless of the above head camera we play on. But we are specifically talking having regulations for IC recording. Something that absolutely should be considered. I recommend having a certain number for the glasses you’d want to consider recording device glasses. Camera recording on the phone for sure. CCTV of businesses. Dash cam facing forward and behind. All these things need to be considered. And while some here want to make it into a joke, it’s a very realistic view point and shouldn’t constantly be made into a joke but worked on to see what is and what is not feasible

Where "X" = exactly as long as that player decides in the moment.  Need a foe's license plate from hours ago? No problem.  Just robbed a store and got pulled over? Sorry, it only records for 10 minutes at a time.

Not being flippant here, these are just examples.
