Improper Escalation
The use of violence in the server is to be held to a high standard. A player should not escalate to killing another player over a situation their character would not realistically respond that way to in real life.

  • For example: If a player is thrown out of a nightclub for causing trouble, it would be considered improper escalation to wait outside for the club to close and gun down the owner or security guard who threw you out without more story built up.
  • Menial situations like the one above are ones that no sane person would risk their life and freedom over.
  • If someone walks away or ignores your escalation, they may be attacked.

This, "Failing to initiate" and "RDM" are basically the same rule & I think should be combined.

If a player is thrown out of a nightclub for causing trouble, it would be considered improper escalation to wait outside for the club to close and gun down the owner or security

This is a poor example that does not make clear the problem is in ambushing the individual without speaking, not the motive for doing so.  Unfortunately this scenario is something that happens all the time in the real world & I think well within reason in the environment of criminal RP provided some verbal interaction is involved.   I don't think we need to tell players why their character would commit violence so long as they have an RP reason and communicate it.  Well-adjusted logical people that value their freedom do not join gangs, rob liquor stores or cook meth.

Anyway - for clarity, I would combine all 3 of these rules into something like this:

Some manner of vocal roleplay should always take place before resorting to violence. The goal is for all players involved to be aware of the situation and given a chance to react in some way without being instantly downed.

There are a few exceptions where a violent confrontation can be already assumed due to circumstances:

  • Police or other players arriving on the scene of an active shootout (provided rules for 3rd Party Intervention & Group Limits are not broken)
  • Obvious high-risk locations such as drug drops, money laundering (any others clearly listed here) where simply approaching someone while armed can be considered hostile intent

In no case should anyone attack unarmed players without giving them a chance to comply with demands (arrest, robbery, kidnapping, "go away", etc) or offering some RP reason for doing so (eg, "You killed my father, prepare to die!")

Add "Rules of Engagement" to the list of rules that could all be covered by this single entry.
