Operation: Let's Have a Convo!

Hello! Recently we have been doing work in re-evaluating our rules and getting new perspectives. There has been progress, but overall I felt personally it mattered most to hear what the everyday player was thinking. You guys are commonly the ones who have to abide by these rules, so we want you to speak up if you disagree or want to see change on a particular rule. This particular thread will not be about any rule in particular, so please do not comment here about any particular rule. I will explain how this works

How it'll work

Basically, this is the foundation for all the rules I will be posting as they currently are on https://www.newchancerp.net/rules I will be making a forum post for EVERY. SINGLE. RULE. I will be copypasting it so you can re-read each rule before replying and also being able to quote certain parts of my post to construct your critique properly in the reply below that rule's forum post. This will also help when the rule is re-shaped to reflect your collective feedback to see what has changed from the original.

You are allowed to disagree with others, you are allowed to agree with others, you are allowed to say what parts are problematic to you and if the wording should be changed. You are allowed to tear the rule apart, but do NOT tear others down in the process. We want this to be a productive and welcoming conversation where you can agree and disagree, but do not be mean-spirited. You can also simply say you don't like a rule and leave it at that, but if I don't have much to work on as far as what I can change about it, I won't really know what to do with that information most likely.

May your input be constructive or simple, I welcome it all. I want you to be fully honest with me and know that your honesty is helpful and NOT inconvenient. we in leadership want you guys to converse with us and converse with your peers about what you think!

Our hope is that we all gain something out of this, and we look forward to posting the threads. I will be timing out my posts for the threads each day so I'm not bombarding this section with a bajillion threads in one go. You are welcome to reply to the ones you have thoughts about or say nothing about the ones you have no particular opposition to.

Take this opportunity to tell us everything, and eventually, the rules will be changed to reflect these changes! Thank you so much, and I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Ultimately, as staff, we have been seeking to change this due to how overly detailed and rigid our rules have become. Our biggest goal from this is to figure out how to simplify each rule so you can have a comprehensive section to work from that doesn't have a thousand bullet points. I hope you can agree with this notion and help work with us to find a way to make everything more simple so that we can all approach the rules confidently without feeling overwhelmed.

Also, please keep in mind that we may still proceed with some changes that weren't directly from your feedback-- but overall we seek to avoid fully taking it into our own hands. This is your time to shine!

Just a side note before I begin, should remove the period after the link to the rules so people can click on it.

For me, all the rules are fine. The only issue I have is the unwritten rules for "Salary Jobs".

No where in the rules as mentioned above, does it say people who have salary jobs can't fish or do uber eats while clocked in. I've only been TOLD that. I clearly understand why I'm being told I can't... but should I choose to still do it, I feel as though I should not get in trouble for doing so as it's not written anywhere if I got caught doing it. That's my argument on the matter as there's no official law stating against it.

Now one could argue "In real life, if you were a lawyer you wouldn't be fishing while doing your job" but I can tell you, if I had a job where I could take work home with me and do it while fishing, I totally would. You would still get paid for doing said paperwork as an "hourly rate" so long as it gets done. As a respectable lawyer, why can't I take meetings with clients seaside, or on the dock of the pier while fishing? That could make for some good RP experience.

Now, I'm not arguing that I should be allowed to fish while clocked in. That's not it at all. I'm arguing that if there's all these rules, we, rather I, would like to see them all written down.

I have been actually wanting to seek out a section for this. I feel weird shoving it under the rules though but wanted to make another section of the site for it and other general information. Thank you for reminding me!

Maybe a universal WL SOP?
