New Car System/Player Owned Mechanic Shops (MERGED)

Not entirely sure if this is possible due to coding limitations or whatnot but here it is.

Cars aren't built equally, and while some cars are built to dominate the track others were meant to dominate gas mileage. But what if we wanted to change that? What if you wanted to pull up in your Panto and smoke an R34? Introducing engine swaps.

How would this work exactly? By using pre-existing speeds and accelerations for certain cars (for example, the Elegy Retro) but retain the body style of the original car, maybe by using something like a kit that gives those specific stats. Now to keep this fair and also unique, this would have to be a transformation upgrade like the Benny's cars, but I can envision it taking several IRL days to finish. This has got to be also an expensive task, somewhere around $100K, otherwise EVERYONE will be swapping their engines. We're trying to give options for racing and vehicles, not set a standard. Maybe the only way of obtaining these engines is to scrap your personal car, like buying an Elegy Retro just to rip out the engine.

If done successfully, this would be SUCH a game changer. This would introduce proper sleeper cars into the racing mix, as well as giving even more roleplay to mechanics and street racers. Plus, it gives your vehicle even more of a unique taste (who wouldn't want to talk about their Panto with a Zentorno engine swap?). The customization for this would yield both awesome and hilarious results. Also, you'd definitely see more vehicle variety around LS, some people may love the design of a certain car but hate the way it drives. NO LONGER!

Like I said, I'm not entirely sure the limitations that the code allows and if this is possible, but one could dream. Let me know what you guys think should be added or whatnot.

Duplicates 2
different repair shop

the current repair shops are a great way to get a quick fix, but what if there were more than just pull up and get a repair. I was thinking player owned repair shops similar to LSC able to do repairs and maybe more of the illegal modifications on vehicles. It would give players an option to grab a quick fix because they were in a rush but also give players to get a different kind of RP when needing something simple. LSC isn't always around so by having multiple of these player owned repair shops it would keep the shop talk RP going even when LSC isn't available.

Los Santos Customs Branches

I wonder to myself if separating some of the work that's able to be done at Los Santos Customs across the map could spread the citizens around more. Most people will gravitate towards the city naturally but this could create a few new social and work roots else where and influence people to use more of the island.

For example;

Sending performance to Palleto.

Off road to Harmony.

Performance upgrade kits to the dodgy looking customs between the airport and Vespucci.

and keeping the rest at the usual shop.

Each shop having the ability to repair, body, paint and do roadside? Or could also use benny's for transformations and benny body work.

I believe it would give people more want and desire to use the customs more regularly. 4X4 events are popular and there is also a street racing scene and they wouldn't generally be at the same shop getting work done. It could lighten the load on too many voices in shop, not enough space in the paint booth too. I would say Employee Cap might need adjusting and relevant to each shop if this was something people thought could work. So rather than 7 max in the shop at a max population, maybe 2-3 in each shop making it 12 at max population and 15 if Benny's is used for transformations and body. Mechanics might want a change of scenery too! Would allow more employee's in total but to be spread out more evenly being productive, faster roadside responses. More hands on repair locations for RP.

I am aware that the city player count would likely need to be increased prior to this rough idea even being a possibility but figured it was worth a thought. I would love to see some other peoples ideas or improvements to this idea.

Eventually we will be adding a whole new car system. Talked about it in another thread so I'll merge.

This was already planned for 1.0 and there's another thread for this so I'll merge.

There's an entire vehicle system planned for the future that will include parts that wear out and need to be replaced, vehicle maintenance and mileage, and all kinds of stuff... along with a new business type... player owned mechanic shops. It's on the list.

uninstalled and stolen would be hella prone to griefing, this is a public server afterall

So the best we can do here would be to look into some type of performance chip option that can push a vehicle higher up than its T5 performance.

That sounds pretty cool, could add a lot of RP if impound removes it. Up the stakes on getting caught racing etc. Maybe even could be uninstalled by players & stolen.

Car handing tuning is an art form and its extremely tedious. Also, there's a chance you get things wrong and create ridiculous situations where someone can get a top tier performing car for fractions of what it would cost everyone else. Then you'll just have everyone buying that car and no variety on the server.

So the best we can do here would be to look into some type of performance chip option that can push a vehicle higher up than its T5 performance.

I like it, creative idea. We would have to consult LSC and see if they wanted to expand there business or what not but yeah I agree with the player count and what not would have to be at a all time high at all times.

What if there were instead 2 or more competing businesses?

I understand the reasoning behind jobs like this, D8 or COSA being whitelisted due to potential abuse.  However, maybe the *job* can be whitelisted (mechanic, real estate agent, lawyer) rather than the business itself? Instead there could be a trade school you attend but then it's up to you to follow up & go get a job somewhere - or start your own business, with the application process & all that entails. The number of these locations could be limited like dealerships. Also, the trade school itself could run like a business, hiring trainers & charging for classes.

We get the advantages of a competitive market while still restricting the powerful meta functions that make those jobs work.  This may also have the advantage of making the positions a bit more competitive, reducing the number of hires that never really clock in for work.

More of a long-term thing to implement for sure but I think it could be an improvement.
